We’re more than just Stylish. We’re WAC \ noun: WACK\
Originally conceived as the "gateway from the west to the loop" by Chicago planner and architect Daniel Burnham, and thus coined "West Loop Gate", our Chicago neighborhood of West Loop has always been one of diversity and contrast, home to a vibrant and eclectic mix of poor Chicago immigrants and wealthy elite. During the Civil War, the near West side was filled with prominent and elegant homes and churches, and the residential growth along Ashland, Jackson and Washington was referred to as the West Side Gold Coast. Closer to the turn of the century, however, single family homes were demolished to make way for manufacturing plants and warehouses centered around the Randolph Street Market, and the new rail system brought more commerce to the area, as well as poorer immigrants looking for work and prosperity, eventually pushing the wealthier residents out.
Today we all know that the West Loop is one of the most exciting and fastest growing neighborhoods in Chicago, a hub of arts and culture, with Randolph Street being home to some of the best restaurants in the city! It's down to earth yet impeccably stylish, just like our members here at West Loop Athletic Club. We think you may just want to call this lovely little place home, too.
