Hey All…Bob Jones here – massage therapist at LPAC (Mon 4.00p – 8.45p, Tue 9.00a – 12.30p, Sat 3.45p – 7.15p). I hope you’re enjoying the post blizzard/deep freeze thaw as much as I am.
Everyone must have been extra careful shoveling this year because I only had about one or two people on my table complaining of shoveling-related pain/tightness. I have been noticing quite a bit of hip and low back tightness in my clients that dates back to the time before Blizzard ’11 hit us, and that might be attributed to how we walk over the ice and snow. I know I tend to curl my toes a bit in an attempt to get a better “grip” on the sidewalk and when I notice what I’m doing, I realize my hips and low back are involved.
Back a few months ago, I performed a Thai massage for a long time client (if you haven’t had a Thai session with me, I don’t exactly stick to the routine - I pay homage to Shivago, the Thai Hippocrates, but sometimes a client’s body beckons me to elaborate on the basics) and did some interesting work around the hips, opening things up and creating a new flow of energy. Since that time, about 75% of the people coming to me seem to have similar hip issues and have left feeling more open, sometimes taller, and moving more smoothly. When it rains, it pours…I wonder what kinds of issues we’ll see at LPAC when the weather warms. I’ll be ready!
